Megadeth - Dystopia Empty
PostSubject: Megadeth - Dystopia   Megadeth - Dystopia I_icon_minitimeThu Jul 30, 2015 7:15 am

Megadeth‘s 15th studio album still doesn’t have a name as of yet, but a few more details have emerged about the forthcoming release. During an online chat with members of Megadeth’s Cyber Army, Dave Mustaine revealed the track listing for the upcoming disc.

Earlier this year, Mustaine revealed in an interview that the band had done covers of “Melt the Ice Away” by Budgie and “Foreign Policy” by Fear. Both covers made the final track listing, as did the also previously mentioned tracks “Poisonous Shadows” and “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” Mustaine had also revealed the band had been working on a song called “Tyranocide” earlier this year, but the cut is not among the final songs on the track listing. However, it is possible that the song has been retitled as something else as many of the songs were using working titles at the time Mustaine was speaking earlier this year.

This marks the first album to featured rummer Chris Adler and guitarist Kiko Loureiro as part of the Megadeth lineup. Mustaine oversaw production of the disc with Toby Wright and the group recently revealed that they had turned the album over to Josh Wilbur to mix. Wilbur has had a hand in mixing past albums from Lamb of God, Adler’s other band.

Speaking about the direction of the new music earlier this year, Mustaine stated, “There’s nothing too out of the ordinary on the record. I think probably the most noticeable thing will be how my playing with the San Diego Symphony [in April 2014] affected some of my guitar work. Learning Vivaldi and Bach and all that, there’s some stuff on the album where you can tell that made an impression on me.”

He added, “But, there’s nothing like ‘Blackest Crow’ [from Super Collider], and, lyrically, nothing like songs that were on Risk, talking about ‘Ecstasy’ or ‘The Breadline’ and stuff like that. These songs are definitely very dark. But is there anything unexpected? It depends what you expect. And anyway, to be predictably unpredictable … is still to be predictable.”

At present, Megadeth are eyeing a late 2015 / early 2016 release. Check out the album’s full track listing below.

Megadeth, Track Listing for As-Yet-Untitled 15th Album:

1. “Death From Within”
2. “Fatal Illusion”
3. “Conquer… Or Die!”
4. “Lying In State”
5. “Me Hate You”
6. “The Emperor’s New Clothes”
7. “Dystopia”
8. “Bullet to the Brain”
9. “Last Dying Wish”
10. “Post American World”
11. “Look Who’s Talking”
12. “The Threat Is Real”
13. “Poisonous Shadows”
14. “Melt the Ice Away” (Budgie Cover)
15. “Foreign Policy” (Fear Cover)

I like song titles, but I'm afraid the album is going to end up being just as shitty as 'Super Collider'. That one only had two decent tracks, one of which was a cover. Here there are two covers, so probably, there will be two decent tracks Smile And seriously, I don't expect anything from this, once used to be my favorite band... predictable, unpredictable, I don't care.

Maybe this will be a surprise. In another interview, Dave said that Junior was cutting bass lines in the vein of "Black Friday", "Tornado Of Souls", etc. So, we shall see.

Wait and see. Listen and...been a while since I got excited about a Megadeth album. And just like Alex, used to be one of my favorite bands.

I'm guessing Kiko isn't doing anything with Angra anymore? I never really followed them but I'm hoping that he can compliment Daves playing style.

I have zero hope for this. Super Collider was genuinely pathetic. It actually hurt to listen to that thing the whole way through. Frankly, imo Megadeth haven't penned a decent song since A Tout Le Monde.

These days the only entertainment you can get from Megadeth is when Dave opens his mouth to say something profoundly stupid again.
Drunk, high Dave was one of the best songwriters in thrash metal. Sober Dave is just a washed up nincompoop.

As of now he is still with Angra.

Super Collider was a disappointment for sure. Th1rt3en was even better than Super Collider, ha ha.

The two last ones indeed were not up to par, but I enjoyed everything they did up until "Endgame". My hopes aren't up but I haven't given up on them yet either.

I liked most of Megadeth's albums even up to Th1rt3en but he lost me with Super Collider. I'm hoping the new album will NOT continue with the latter's trend!

I like the song.

The album cover though isn't that great.

I have to admit that new track is pretty good. It's almost as if the last 20-odd years of subpar garbage never happened. I sincerely hope the rest of the album is as good or better. Would be nice for a change to have a Big 4 studio album that was something more worthwhile than just a chance to add 2 new songs to the live show.

You haven't liked any of the post The World Needs A Hero releases?

The System Has Failed, United Abominations and Endgame are quite good.

Love the cover of the new album \m/ Somewhat of Oblivion type I guess.
Song sounds really good. And Dave's voice pretty much the same as it used to be.
Will wait for the full album.

I haven't really liked anything since Youthanasia Razz A couple OK songs since then, maybe, but overall the kindest word I can use is mediocre. And a lot of it I would just call really awful. But then, for me there's no middle road when it comes to Megadeth. Some of their stuff I really like and some I really hate - there's no "Well, this is not that great, but it's still Megadeth, damn it" setting.
Basically I love everything up to and including 1992. 1994's Youthanasia I mostly still dig, but from that point on for me it becomes kind of a search for the odd diamond in a bucket of shit, and finding mostly cubic zirconias...

I think you should listen to those three in particular again. Maybe another listen will make it sink in more. Albums like Risk and Super Collider I can understand loathing.

I think this album is along the lines of Countdown To Exintiction, Youthanasia, United Abominations and Endgame. I don't find that to be a bad thing.
