| Last week on one of my shows, I did a news story where a debate is ongoing about whether a hot dog should be considered a sandwich. Is it a sandwich or not? Give your reasons as to why it is or is not a sandwich. | |

| They both contain meaty innards. I think the debate is whether or not the bread is one whole or cut into halves that makes a sandwich what it is. Then there are foods that are still considered sandwiches but instead of bread the cook can substitute meat products like burger and ham as the binding solution for the lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, etc. | |

| A sandwich is fill in between two seperate slices of bread, and the bread in a hot dog is not cut all the way through, thus not a sandwich. | |

| By that logic a Sub would not be considered a sandwich either but it still uses a similar style bread to hold the contents, although mine do have a tendency to moult sweetcorn everywhere but in principle, a sub is still considered a sandwich. I think its more a case that a hot dog is not considered one because the contents are not sliced or cut up but in one portion | |

| I am on the side that a hot dog is not a sandwich. It lacks the stuff that makes a sandwich a sandwich. | |

| If a hot dog is a sandwich, then so is a cheeseburger.
With the possible exception of grilled cheese, sandwiches typically are cold (as in not hot).

With the possible exception of grilled cheese, sandwiches typically are cold (as in not hot). You do raise a good point about a cheeseburger. I do however have to disagree about a sandwich having to be cold. If you heat up a sandwich, it's still a sandwich. People like the cheese melted on their sandwich.

| Here in Mexico, we have this sandwich-type creation called a 'torta' which is a really big sandwich. Though, we don't call it a sandwich. Why? Because it's not. It has every aspect of a sandwich, but it's DEFINITELY NOT a sandwich. | |
